Third Mission

Institutions in education and research ought to be pillars of social responsibility in a global context. The University of Cologne accepts this global responsibility, as stated in its internationalization strategy, and is assuming it in a number of fields and activities. Various research projects envisage to contribute to societal development in both Germany and in countries of the Global South, proving that excellency in research and teaching and global responsibility are internationalization objectives that fit into one another. Global societal responsibility and internationalization are also intertwined in the following projects and activities:

Welcome Prize 2019 - Vote now for the project "Mathematics for Refugees"!

Winners of the Welcome-Prize for Student Initiatives will again be determined by a public vote in 2019.

Now in its third round, the DAAD and the BMBF are jointly awarding the Welcome Prize in recognition of the students' commitment to welcome projects that have rendered outstanding services to the integration of refugees at German universities.

Use your vote to decide on the placement of the three initiatives, which have previously been selected by a jury from numerous applications. Get to know the three initiatives and their field of activity by means of short film portraits and then choose your favourite via our survey.

1st place is endowed with 10,000 euros, 2nd place with 5,000 euros and 3rd place with 3,000 euros. The prize money goes into the promotion of the individual projects. Your decision is therefore important!
