Information:

Career Steps for postdocs in academia and industry is the major annual Max-Planck Society's career event for postdoctoral researchers.

In 2017 it is organized in joint cooperation by CECAD (Cologne Cluster of Excellence in Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases), the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne and the Administrative Headquarter of the Max Planck Society in Munich.

The German Universities of Excellence and the German Research Institutes are excellent locations for young talented scientists to obtain scientific education. In the past years the public science system increased attention to provide next generation scientists with the necessary knowledge and mind-set to succeed in any occupational system they choose for their career: Public academia, private corporations or independent new businesses.

This event takes stock of the fact that the ambition to educate future principal academic investigators does not contradict the aim to properly prepare for an industry career in or outside the trained field or any other activity: Training in academia these days is strengthening the focus on transferable skills and a life-long-learning approach already applied in industry. The post-doc position in academia is more than ever an educational step towards human maturation, managerial competencies and open international mindsets.

CECAD as well as the Max Planck Society invite for a one-day event giving an overview about how to access the academic job market, non-academic career opportunities and training and coaching to improve individual orientation for successful future career steps.

The participation for Postdocs of the University of Cologne is free of charge; slots for participation in the workshops are limited!

The official language of the event is English.
