International Cologne Summer Language Courses

in German Language and Culture 2019 - dates, target groups, information

Course dates:
6.8. - 29.8.2019

Course Content/Levels:
a) 3 intensive courses training general language skills (16 teaching units per week)
    level: from CEF B1
b) 2 intensive courses in German Studies/ German History (16 teaching units per week)
    level: from CEF B1

additional workshops - 4 teaching units per week each:
Grammar, Listening Comprehension, German Studies/German History, Business German

Teaching units per week:
16 teaching units per intensive course + 4, 8, 12 or 16 teaching units of workshops in addition (according to personal choice)- 1 teaching unit (= 45 minutes)

Participants/Target groups:
for a) students of all subjects with a good basic knowledge of the German language
for b) students of all subjects with a good command of the German language, especially students of German language and literature, political science, economics, social sciences, journalism, history and law

Registration deadline:
30.06.2019 or when the maximum number of participants is reached

Number of participants:
a maximum of 15 per course

Course fees:
€ 550,- for the language course and the culture programme/leisure time activities excluding accommodation and board; the course fee includes 50% of the ticket for the public transportation system in Cologne.

Students from our partner universities are charged a reduced course fee of € 310,-  (+ 50% of the ticket for public transport)

Registration fee: € 300,-  (The registration fee will be balanced with the total costs.)

Examinations and certificates:
At the end of the summer language course a written examination takes place. Students who pass this final examination and who have attended the course regularly receive an ECTS-certificate (4,5 ECTS credit points).

a) single rooms in student dormitories (without board)
price: from € 260,- to € 310,-;
b) accommodation with a family (from € 300,- to € 350,- - board available on request)
It is possible to have lunch in the dining hall of the university at students' prices (Mensa).

Excursions/leisure time activities (predominantly included in the course fee):

guided city tour, excursions in the surroundings of Cologne, company visits, museums, welcome party, farewell dinner

Additional information:

a) On the first day of the course the students have to take a placement test. The result will determine the course to attend.

b) For a small fee the university´s sports centre may be used.

c) Minimum number of participants per course/additional work shop: 8.

d) Minimum age: 18.
