Subproject "Aktionsplan Inklusion" (Inclusion Action Plan)

The demographic change in Germany suggests that there will be fewer young talent, fewer skilled workers and a higher average age of the workforce in the future. One solution to this challenge is to make the world of work more inclusive. A further argument for inclusion is the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN-CRPD), which promotes the human rights and fundamental freedoms of people with disabilities and has been implemented in Germany since 2009. According to the UN-CRPD, people with disabilities are "those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others" (Article 1). Barriers may be of a constructional, communicative, structural or cultural nature. Action plans have been drawn up at federal and state level to implement the UN-CRPD. The first universities have also presented inclusion concepts. The aim of the subproject "Aktionsplan Inklusion" (Inclusion Action Plan) is to formulate, specify and in some cases already implement concrete measures by the end of 2018 in order to promote people with disabilities (students and staff in administration and research) at the University of Cologne and to further dismantle existing barriers.

In order to make the development of the "Aktionsplan Inklusion" sustainable, the "Runde Tisch Inklusion" (Round Table Inclusion) was established as a discussion and networking forum. In a total of 4-5 two-hour sessions, the participants accompany the development process of the action plan. In addition, there are expert groups on individual fields of action in which interested parties can participate. The fields of action are "Strategy and Structure", "Staff", "Research", "Consulting and Service", "Communication and IT", "Buildings and Campus" and "Study and Teaching". The status quo with regard to inclusion is recorded in these groups of experts and specific measures for further development are formulated. We would very much like to invite all interested parties to participate in the development of the "Aktionsplan Inklusion". If you have any questions, ideas or suggestions (e.g. on accessibility), please feel free to contact the project management at any time.
