Discussion of Chinese environmental Issues in the form of the Second China
Germany Joint Forum on Climate Change and Energy to take place in Cologne
Mr. Yaping Shao is professor of meteorology in Cologne. Professor Shao, who is originally from Peking, China, came with up with the idea of utilizing his many connections in his native country to establish this unique forum two years ago. It was upon his initiative, namely, that the Germany-China Forum on Climate Change and Energy was established, with resounding success. The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Prof. LIU Yanhua and the Minister of Economics and Commerce of North Rhein-Westphalia, Werner H. Lauk, as well as numerous experts from different areas of science and economics, are expected at the congress this year.
Region-specific problems, e.g. the ever-increasing environmental pollution and the resulting desertification and climate change in China, are on the agenda for discussion at the congress. Scientists from Cologne, together with colleagues from other fundamental research areas, plan to examine underlying causes, while also investigating concrete projects involving industrial cooperation for air pollution control and energy production, e.g. the implementation of renewable energy.
