Science in a dynamic Container
The Universities of the China-NRW Alliance will present themselves during the Länderwoche NRW at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai
Rapid and dynamic: The science container of the universities of Münster, Dortmund and Cologne will be invoking the curiosity of the visitors to the Expo in Shanghai from September 20th to 25th. The multimedia presentation of the China-NRW University Alliance at the NRW-Länderwoche under the motto "Mega challenges - mega solutions" will be presenting the research location of NRW there. The Alliance universities of Münster, Dortmund and Cologne will be exhibiting their scientific solutions to pressing questions in selected projects:
The TU Dortmund will be presenting space-planning concepts that could ensure sustainable development in urban centres. Urban change caused by climate change and ageing societies will also be an issue.
What does the future of (auto)mobility look like? Is there an environmentally friendly alternative to combustion motors? At the battery research centre MEET (Münster Electrochemical Energy Technology) of the Westfälischen Wilhelms University (WWU) Münster an international team of scientists are looking for answers to these pressing questions. Lithium-ion technology, which promises the highest efficiency in the development of battery life, is at the centre of the research.
Ageing societies are a research focus of the University of Cologne. The objective of CECAD Cologne, the excellence cluster on the research of the ageing process, is to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying lifespan regulation and aging-associated diseases in order to set the ground for achieving the long-term objective of developing new therapeutic interventions and the healthiest ageing process possible.
Excellent research requires excellent presentation. For this reason the design of the science container has been customized to suit the Asian audience. Colourful symbols and structures will present the area “Urban Future, Future Energy und Understanding Aging.” Dynamic and rapid videos will present visitors to the exhibition with solutions to pressing problems. "Talking heads", providing personalized information, will answer the visitors’ questions and present the project.
In addition to the presentations in the Science Container, human contact will also play a decisive role. Professor Jens Brüning, director of CECAD, will be present at the container in the German pavilion to answer questions and engage in discussions.
