Evaluation of Studies and Teaching | Higher Education Research
The Evaluation of Studies and Teaching | Higher Education Research institute forms part of the Vice-Rectorate for Studies and Teaching. In order to contribute towards improving study conditions at our university, our aim is to find out more about studying at the University of Cologne and in general. Our tasks and responsibilities therefore include the creation of knowledge in accordance with research standards, the evaluation of existing measures and dissemination of our results to the university management, staff and students.
In order to meet these objectives, we conduct surveys among students and staff on a regular basis, some of which are carried out in cooperation with external higher education research institutes. We use a quantitative-qualitative mixed-methods design to ask students and teaching staff for their perspective as part of our Campus in Dialogue Survey. Our quantitative student and alumni surveys include the First-Year Student Survey, the Higher Education Quality Survey, the University Leavers Survey (both in cooperation with the German Centre for Research on Higher Education and Science Studies (DZHW)) and the Graduate Tracer Studies. In the framework of our Status Quo Surveys, we carry out evaluations of degree programmes in cooperation with student, faculty and programme representatives. Additionally, we support staff at the programme level in conducting workload surveys. Furthermore, the third-party-funded (BMBF) project E-Prom-UzK is also embedded in our institute.
In order to obtain relevant results, we rely on university staff and students to cooperate with our institute. Thus, we are happy about every single response to our surveys, interview invitations as well as your interest in our results. If you have any questions on how to carry out evaluations or surveys, or are interested in using the EvaSys Campus Model, you are very welcome to contact us.
