Faculty of InternationalSample Institute

German as a Foreign Language

Language is the key to a country’s culture. And even if it is possible to use English as a working language in many institutes and seminars at the university, for the purposes of leisure and everyday life it is much easier if you speak at least a little German.

Please note that German classes are free of charge for guest scholars of the University of Cologne.

The preparatory German courses start at the beginning of the summer semester (around April 15) and the winter semester (around October 15). Pre-semester courses are also offered starting at the beginning of March and beginning of September.

In addition to these, workshops are offered in which a particular skill is practiced (pronunciation, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammar, etc.) or a certain topic is focused on (German literature, Buisness German, regional studies, etc.).
