Meeting the Challenge of Change and Complexity

The seven major goals of the UoC Institutional Strategy are:
1. to strengthen and further develop the UoC’s research profile by establishing and
extending the new integrative concept of the UoC Key Profile Areas (KPAs) each
embedded in a UoC Competence Area (CA) with the ultimate goal of making the
UoC KPAs competitive world-class research areas,
2. to establish the UoC Excellent Research Support Program – a program designed
to support excellent research on all levels from outstanding individual researchers
to excellent collaborative research,
3. to integrate new career development structures and supporting processes aimed
at developing the full potential of the UoC’s huge pool of young scientific talent
and providing excellent research and career conditions for young academics with
the particular goal of furthering novel, diversified educational and teaching
schemes to better emphasize and foster research-oriented teaching in all phases
of education,
4. to advance the UoC’s corporate governance bodies with the particular goals of
a. enhancing the UoC’s flexibility and capability to act
b. ensuring integrated development of the whole University via building on wellbalanced
bottom-up and top-down processes and external advice,
5. to further strengthen and expand the Research Alliance Cologne,
6. to advance the UoC’s international research networks and exchange programs
particularly in the fields of the KPAs,
7. to foster gender equality, in particular by implementing and further developing an
integrated gender management scheme that ensures that gender-related issues
will be a constant theme on all levels of the UoC, thereby creating a more inclusive
work environment for all UoC members.
