Research transfer

Research transfer is one of the central fields of action of the Third Mission. It includes the utilization of research within the framework of technology and innovation transfer as well as the knowledge transfer of current research results.

A particularly effective form of the economic exploitation of research results is the establishment of companies. The support of potential founders from the university environment is therefore the aim of the focus on start-up and innovation.  In addition, cooperation with companies plays an important role - either within the framework of joint projects or of commissioned work. The University of Cologne is thus a central node of the regional innovation network.

The most important channel of knowledge transfer is teaching. The University therefore attaches great importance to ensuring that teaching in all disciplines refers to current research results - especially in the core profile areas and competence fields of the research profile. The focus of science communication also involves the interested public and stakeholders from all areas of life in the scientific discourse. Activities in individual research areas also strengthen knowledge transfer (e.g. Wallraf Digital as an innovative communication format).
