Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Luxembourg

Delegates of the University of Cologne and the University of Luxembourg have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding on March 9, 2017 in order to enhance their collaboration.

The University of Luxembourg, founded in 2003, has 6,172 students from 115 countries. It has succeeded in establishing itself as an attractive cooperation partner. One of its research focuses is on Education and Learning in multilingual and multicultural contexts. This is highly interesting for the UoC due to its numerous projects in intercultural education.

During the ceremonial signing, the delegation of the UoC visited the Belval Campus of the University of Luxembourg. The members of the German delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Gudrun Gersmann, Vice-Rektor for International Affairs at the UoC, were Dr. Susanne Berger, Personal Advisor to the Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Katrin Kaiser from the Department 93 “International Mobility”.

The representatives of the UoC were welcomed at the University of Luxembourg by Prof. Dr. Tonie Van Dam, Vice-President for Doctoral Education and Training, International Relations and Gender, Cassandra Marie Mikicic, Advisor of the Vice-President, and Stéphanie Schott, International Relations Specialist, as well as Prof. Dr. Claudine Kirsch, who enjoys joint projects in the area of multilingualism and language acquisition with Prof. Dr. Argyro Panagiotopoulou in Cologne.

The main purpose of the MoU is to contribute to the advancement of teacher education. Due to the new agreement, prospective teachers from Cologne will be able to gain practical skills during their work experience at schools in Luxembourg. Moreover, the universities have agreed to expand the education of doctoral candidates, especially in the field of multilingualism. Another goal is to organize research stays for PostDocs from both universities.
