Cluster of Excellence and Graduate Schools

In the framework of the Excellence Initiative, the University of Cologne receives funding for two Clusters of Excellence (CECAD – Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-Associated Diseases, CEPLAS – Cluster of Excellence in Plant Sciences) and two graduate schools (a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School for the Humanities Cologne, Bonn-Cologne Graduate School for Physics and Astronomy).

In 2012, the University of Cologne became one of eleven German Universities of Excellence. The Excellence Initiative is jointly carried out by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR). Funding comes from the German government and the federal states.
